May 12We must receive the “Getting to Know You” form, which is also your entry form and letter of recommendation by this date.

Mokasige Square Dancers, Kitigan Zibi and First Nation entertainers from other First Nation communities

Judging

This contest will promote good and healthy living practices among Algonquin female youth. Respect for themselves, their Creator and all that is around them will be the guiding principle of this competition.

Choice of contestants will be left to the individual Algonquin community. They will determine a fair and equitable manner to choose their candidates to represent their community.

No more than (2) candidates per community, with the same requirements per candidate.

By May 12, if there is not enough candidates - at least five (5) to be viable - present themselves, then the event would be cancelled for this year

Should contestant speak a language other than English, they will be allowed an interpreter. The candidate will be required to compete with the other candidates in the following categories:

Preliminary Judging 10% Judges will meet candidates and make a personal evaluation on the candidates suitability on Friday, May 29th.
Public Speaking 15% Must be able to speak on a topic of a native issue for 3 minutes.
Traditional Appearance 15% A competition in a traditional dress.
Contemporary Appearance 5% A competition in contemporary fashion will be judged during the introduction.
Traditional/Contemporary Talent 15% Candidate will choose to present a talent in some area considered as part of Algonquin tradition or contemporary tradition. (3-5 minutes in duration)
Traditional Knowledge 10% Contestant will be asked a question based on traditional knowledge of history, medicines, life, etc.
Contemporary Knowledge 10% Contestant will submit a question they would like to be asked during the contest.
Traditional Dance 10% Movement to traditional music.
General Use of Algonquin Language 10% General Use of Algonquin Anishinabemowin throughout the contest.
Total  100 points

The contestants will choose one among themselves for the Miss Serenity title. It will be the person they feel demonstrated the most respectful, considerate, helpful and friendly attitude during the competition.
